8月10日下午13点，加州大学圣地亚哥分校蔡盛强教授在ZOOM会议室受邀做学术报告，题目为“Soft Materials：from fundamental mechanics to engineering applications”，包括中国科大在内的国内多所高校师生云端相聚此次报告。报告会由工程科学学院司廷教授主持。
蔡盛强教授给与会师生带来了一场精彩的学术报告。蔡盛强教授指出近年来软材料已在包括可穿戴设备和软机器人在内的众多工程应用中得到广泛研究。在本次报告中，他主要介绍了课题组最近在软材料力学方面的一些工作。在报告的开始，他介绍了其课题组在软致动材料方面的最新进展并讨论了液晶弹性体的优异驱动性能。同时，他还展示了液晶弹性体作为人造肌肉的几种有趣现象和应用。最后，他对于软材料力学所面对的挑战进行了展望。在自由讨论环节，与会师生积极提问交流，反响热烈。
报告人简介：
Shengqiang Cai is currently an associate professor in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at University of California, San Diego. He obtained his Ph.D. degree from Harvard University at 2011. After graduating from Harvard, he spent one year as postdoc at MIT. His research is mainly focused on mechanics of materials, especially soft materials and active materials. He has published more than 100 peer-reviewed papers including PNAS, Advanced Materials, Science Advances, JMPS, etc. He ever won the National Science Foundation CAREER Award in 2016 and the Journal of Applied Mechanics Award in 2020.
